This template is based on the latest NICE guidance to help guide correct management and antibiotic treatment choices for this common primary care presentation.


The template can be located in the following ways:


  • Auto-Consultation > ardens CONDITIONS INFECTIONS > Acute Cough
  • Use the bottom left search bar in SystmOne
  • Via the General Consultations template (respiratory tab)


If using on a regular basis, save to F12 favourites for quick access.


The template is split across separate tabs along the top or hyperlinks within the home page, this allows you to navigate to the appropriate section.


Home

The home page allows you to document the encounter type and seen by codes for other professional roles which are linked to reports as part of the NCD PCN DES. 


The view provides a snapshot of relevant medical history for any infections or covid coding, microbiology results and relevant medications.


Acute Consultation


You'll notice the options within the Management section at the bottom of the template are initially 'greyed out'.  The appropriate management and advice will be highlighted once you've ticked the relevant box in the Impression section.


Assessment allows you to add key symptoms, along with any findings, complications/risks and red flags.

Clicking in to any of the Vitals fields will display coded historical results in the yellow pane to the right side of the template.  Manually type the new result into the appropriate box.


Child - Sepsis Risk 


If you suspect the child may be at risk of Sepsis, there is a sepsis risk template available located above the numeric fields labelled Child Examination, the protocol will recognise the age of the child and present the appropriate age template.

Located below the Vitals numeric fields, navigate to the required guidance using the tabs at the top of the template:


Both the Findings and Complications/Risks free text boxes have presets available alongside to save a bit of typing.

Click on the preset button (notepad icon) and add 1 or multiple lines of text by pressing & holding Ctrl on the keyboard and using mouse to select. The text can be edited once added to the template. 


For convenience and possibility of any red flags there are links to both Possible Lung Cancer and Possible Pulmonary Embolism templates, next to these is a hyperlink to the NICE guidance.


Impression


One of the boxes must be ticked to activate the Management guidance greyed out below. 


Management


Allows you to quickly document advice given.  The RCGP Leaflet is available as word document to print.

Prescribing


Click the Formulary hyperlink or Formulary tab along the top to prescribe medication.

The formulary provides 1st & 2nd line prescribing for both adults & children.

TIP: To return to the previous page, use the tabs along the top of the template.  Clicking Ok will close the template.


Resources

The Resources tab contains useful website links with information that can be sent to a patient via text/email by copying & pasting the link in to Send Message.


Ambulance

If an ambulance has been requested on behalf of the patient, the Ambulance & Transport template is available for you to code the relevant detail in the record. 


Reports


There are reports to identify patients with a recent LRTI and where antibiotics were issued / not issued.


Go to Clinical Reporting > select the Ardens Ltd folder > Conditions infections > Activity last 3 months
