When prescribing medications within SystmOne that can attract an administration fee, there is a box on the prescription generation window indicating the medication is being personally administered (PA).
When this box is ticked, the medication will not transfer via the electronic prescription service (EPS).
In some instances. this box is automatically ticked which can be inconvenient when prescribing items that are intended to be dispensed elsewhere. For example, when prescribing in palliative care.
Whether an item has this box automatically ticked or not can be altered in your organisation settings to be in line with how your practice operates.
How to update organisation settings
In your SystmOne menu across the top of the screen, go to Set up > Users and Policy > Organisation Preferences > Prescribing > Personally administered
Ensure that your chosen medications are included in the window that appears. From this window you can add or remove items. This will ensure the PA box is unticked when you prescribe medications. Prescriptions for these items will be automatically transferred to the patient's nominated pharmacy via the electronic prescription service (EPS).
How to manually update the prescription items
- Right click on the prescribed medication in the view at the bottom of the template and select “Amend medication”.
- From the amend acute medication screen, untick the ‘Pers admin’ box.
- Repeat the above steps for all medications which need to be sent via EPS
