NHSE updated the MMR catch-up campaign in November 2023. The campaign will run from November 2023 to March 2024 and is in two stages:

  • From November 2023 to March 2024 - practices will be required to undertake local call and recall for eligible individuals aged 12 months up to and including 5 years.
  • From January 2024 to March 2024 - Practices are asked to support requests for vaccination from individuals aged 6 years up to and including 25 years. This will be recalled by the School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS) but we have produced reports to help identify these patients so practices can plan who may contact the surgery to book their vaccination after receiving the invite.

Template

You can launch the MMR template through Auto-consultation > ardens IMMS AND INJECTIONS > MMR Catch-Up. You can add this to your F12 favourites for quick access.

This template can be used to record the immunisation on the patient's record as well as adding other relevant notes such as consent, PSD authorisation, or producing a patient leaflet.

NOTE: There is no status alert for MMR catch-ups as this is pro-active recall rather than ad-hoc work. The below reports can be used to identify and invite patients.

Reports

All the reports to assist with delivering MMR catch-ups are found in Ardens Ltd > Vaccinations > MMR Catch Up which is then divided into sub sections as shown below:

Cohorts

These searches will give you your cohorts for the different age ranges of patients that have not been fully vaccinated, not had their 1st & booster doses or not had their booster doses. These searches should not be used to invite patients, but are a guide to have an idea of how many patients fall into these categories.

Review Eligibility

These reports identify children within the eligible age range with potential contraindications, based on the Green Book guidance. Any patients found in these reports are not included in the main invitation reports and should be considered individually, adding a contraindication code if appropriate.

Due

These reports will give you the total figures of those patients due their MMR first dose or booster for 1 to 5 year olds.

There are also searches that identify 6 to 25 year olds who have not had the 1st or had the booster MMR vaccination, but may have contraindications or potential contraindications recorded in their records. These can be clinically reviewed to determine whether they are eligible for an MMR vaccination should they contact the surgery to book one.

Send Invite 1y to 5y

Use these reports to send communication to the patient's parent or guardian that they are due their first or booster dose.

NOTE: As 6 to 25 year olds are to be actively recalled nationally rather than by practices, there are no invite searches for this age range in this folder.

There are various invite codes that can be used for this process. Our reports will exclude the following codes so you can follow the 1st/2nd/3rd invite process.

Consider Visit 1y 5y

These reports will show any children that have been marked as housebound or living in a residential home in their record. These patients are automatically excluded from the invite reports and therefore are shown in these potential visit lists instead.

PLEASE NOTE: In rare instances, where a patient has had 2 doses of MMR aged 12-14m and a further dose aged 15-17m, the searches may regard them as ‘fully vaccinated’, but the Green Book states “…If the child is given the second dose at less than 15 months of age, then another routine dose (a third dose) should be given after 18 months in order to ensure full protection, if the child is given the second dose from 15 months of age, no further routine doses are required.”
